Strength Training: 4 Benefits Of Strength Training For Women
Back in the “good old days”, it was assumed that strength training was only for men. When we thought of strength training we pictured grotesquely muscle-bound, oily, fake-tanned men in tiny little Speedos! But today we have gained the understanding that those were examples of extreme body building which had nothing to do with health or fitness!
Below I have listed four of the benefits of strength training for women.
1. Strength training increases fat burning by speeding up your metabolism. Combining cardio with strength training will lead to more and faster fat loss than cardio alone. And the more muscle you add, the more fat you burn because muscle tissue even burns calories when at rest!
2. Strength training fights osteoporosis. When you work your muscles in an intense, targeted way, it increases your bone density by increasing the pull on the bones which are attached to the muscles.
3. Strength training improves balance. You not only build stronger muscles and bones, but you also build stronger tendons and ligaments. As you get stronger you also become more coordinated and thus less likely to fall and injure yourself. If you do fall, you have muscle tissue in place to act as padding for your bones and joints.
4. Strength training helps you to look and feel better. You will reduce body fat and build up lean muscle. Firm, toned muscles pad your skin and prevent jiggly arms and droopy skin. You feel confident and energized. Your posture is even improved by strength training!
Be sure to include cardio as well as strength training when you design your fitness program for the best routine for total body fitness. Remember to consult your doctor or a fitness professional when setting up your strength training program.
